Transform your habits, transform your business

From the moment we wake up to the time we go to bed, our actions are governed by habits.

Yet these seemingly mundane routines, when they are implemented intentionally, have the power to shape our future success.

Charles Duhigg in his book ‘The Power of Habit” explains how habits are formed through cue, routine, and reward.  Recognising our loops is the first step in understanding our habits and how they can be modified and used to bring about positive change.

The key lies in identifying any negative habits, for example, procrastination, excessive screen time or lack of exercise, and consciously redirecting them toward better alternatives.

So the first step is mindfulness and awareness about your habits and routines (some of which we do unconsciously) and identifying the impact these have on a daily basis.

Are they aligned with your goals or intentions for your personal or professional life?

If not what could you do differently?

It’s usually best to introduce new routines slowly over time. Start small, focusing on one habit at a time, and gradually build from there.

Trying to make too many changes can feel overwhelming and frustrating which leads us to give up.

Our environments and the people we surround ourselves with, play an important role in shaping and sustaining our habits.  A coach or accountability partner can help you reflect and stay on track.  A positive, and clutter free office environment may provide the inspiration to stop procrastinating and start creating.  Keeping to office hours could help you reduce screen time and increase efficiency.

Most importantly consistency is the key, as habits are reinforced through repetition.

There are many different approaches, some of which can make an immediate difference to the quality of your work and life.

Is there one habit you would like to change?

Mine is about reducing screen time in the morning and evening. By focusing on one habit and making small changes to my daily routine, I’ve noticed the difference in my mindset, productivity and quality of sleep. All of which has encouraged me not to slip back into my old ways.
